130 Don’t Be Stuck In A Job. Do Something BIGGER! – With Farnoosh Brock

By Leslie Samuel

Who: Farnoosh Brock
Course: Smart Exit Blueprint

Listen to This Episode

Have you ever been stuck in a job that you just don't like?

Are you stuck in a job RIGHT NOW that you aren't motivated to stick with?

Do you ever dream about doing something BIGGER than what you're currently doing?

Ok, then you have to listen to this interview.

Inside this Episode

LWL_130_Dont be stuck in a job-DO SOMETHING BIGGER!

Today's guest is none other than my great (and AWESOME) friend Farnoosh Brock, the founder and president of the media and publishing company Prolific Living. She left her long corporate career to start the company.

She hired her husband a year in and they write books, especially with a health focus and created the Smart Exit Blueprint course to teach others how to pursue their dream of leaving corporate the right way.

She's been featured in Forbes Magazine and on BBC (and here of course).

In the interview, Farnoosh went into great detail about how to leave your job the right way. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Before you decide to quit your job, first you need to figure out WHY you want to quit your job. The answer isn't always what you think.
  • You need to create outlets for creativity in your life.
  • Look at what you're doing as a hobby. Is that something you're willing to do on a full time basis and as a business?
  • Once you've decided you want to build that business, TAKE MASSIVE ACTION!

Ok, ok – I'm gonna stop there, because giving it all to you here would be doing this interview an injustice. You want to listen for yourself and get all the juicy details right from the horses mouth.

Farnoosh not only expands on those points, but also gets into the Step By Step.

So, if you've ever thought about eventually leaving that job behind and focusing on your passion, you're gonna want to listen in.

Of course, when you're finished listening, be sure to let us know what you thought in the comments area below.

    2. Hi,

All the mentoring I do is right here. My time is extremely limited, so that’s why I created this blog – to be able to help as many people as possible. Wishing you all the best!

  1. Leslie, first time listening to your podcast and wow. ENTHUSIASM galore. Love it. Having those types of outlets are great. Mine was writing but I still managed to turn that writing passion into a business.

I love the part about massive action. I never use to do that until realized all the things I wanted to do wasn’t coming to me just by waiting. When I started taking action, is when my dreams started coming true.

I disagree with ONE thing that Farnoosh said “if you can’t get around to working on your business, it’s ok, don’t beet yourself up. Work on it tomorrow.”

I think that there’s so many aspects to building a website/business that there’s always something to do. Even if you don’t spend 2 hours writing content, you could still spend 10 – 15 minutes researching topics to write about of certain keywords, etc. That’s my thoughts on that, because at times I don’t want to write content so I look up keywords or other content, or also, educate myself.

Anyway, great podcast. For those people who are still in the 9 – 5, this is something that they should seriously listen to.

    1. Heyyy Andrew, ALWAYS great to have a new listener, so thanks for listening and for commenting. Yep, it’s all about taking MASSIVE action. That’s the key!

In terms of the part you said you disagree on, I think she’s more referring to the mindset. If my situation prohibits me from working on my business today, I can beat myself up about it, but that won’t necessarily get me closer to my goals. Tomorrow is a new day with new opportunities.

It’s more along the lines of “no use crying over spilt milk”. If the milk is spilt, clean it up and get some more milk 😉

    2. Hi Andrew, I love disagreements. And well, that’s fine, you can beat yourself up or not, either way yesterday is gone and tomorrow is what lies ahead. It won’t make any difference, but beating yourself up just drains energy from working on your business later. But yes, you can do something even in 10 minutes. That we agree on for sure 🙂 Thanks for listening….

  2. Loooove this podcast! I knew there were things I needed to do to become “corporate job” free and this as a wonderful reminder. I must prioritize, schedule, and cut out the unnecessary. Evenings need to be for blog work. Not tv or pointless internet browsing. I also need to continue to educate myself.
    Thank you to you! both!

    1. I’m SOOOOo looking forward to the day when you can be focused on your business full time. I think I will be rejoicing just as much as you will be (or almost as much). Glad you found value in this episode. Farnoosh is a great guest and always brings it when she comes on!

    2. Holly, some of that “pointless activity” is for you to decompress, so don’t beat yourself up too much but yes if you can use those precious hours towards building your dream business one bit at a time, it’ll come together so much faster. All the best to you and do stay in touch. Here’s to exiting out of that job soon.

  3. Farnoosh and Leslie, you are among my Best bloggers. I like when Farnoosh says it is hard work to start a business. She has to sacrifice some things she loves doing to create time.
Too many lies out there, telling us we only need to work for 2-4 hours. They don’t tell you that it took them 8-10 years to set their business in automatic mode, by putting systems in place – so they only need to check on it for 2-4 hours a day.
If you love people you will be honest. When you are honest, you will be prosperous.
Thanks Farnoosh. Wish you great prosperity.

    1. Dear Joyce, thanks so much for your kind words. And that’s SO TRUE, Joyce. Those super stars don’t tell you it took them years to get to where you are and we see them at the top of their game and only get discouraged. Don’t let that happen. Honesty is a great way to run your business and your brand. I wish you the very same, and thanks for taking a listen here.

  4. good day my mentor I hope you slept well and also your family. if so thanks be to god almighty.

  5. Thank’s Farnoosh and Leslie for theses tips, but I’m realy disappointed that Farnoosh has stopped her podcast in prolific living.

  6. Thank you Leslie for introducing me to Farnoosh. I haven’t heard the other episodes with her and always wondered who that was in the intro for the podcast! This is the first time I have ever heard anyone talk about THIS part of working for yourself and building an online business. All the people I follow online have already done it but they don’t talk about the process and steps involved to making the switch. Im so appreciative to both of you for taking the time to share so much on this episode and I look forward to discovering Farnoosh’s program. Muchas gracias!

    1. Awesome stuff Vanessa. Glad to hear that you found value in the podcast episode. Farnoosh is a great guest and I love having her on. She’ll be back 🙂

  7. OH MY GOSH! I just had to comment now! I discovered you Leslie about 2 months ago, and have been listening to you in my car to and from work. I am so blown away by the value you provide, and the steps you give, helping me to get my blog going! Today’s blog with Farnoush was so incredible, and so encouraging! There really is a plan for making an exit from working! Thanks Farnoush for all you do, and what you provide to help people like me! fantastic.

Leslie, I too am a teacher, and I am working on a computer science blog for teen and undergraduates. You interactive-biology is such an inspiration, and does just what I want to do.
I too play the piano, and have been playing since I was five! I lead worship in my church, and am having an amazing time.

Leslie, thanks for your dedication to your craft. I can hear you smiling through the audio, and sometimes you have me in absolute stitches of laughter!!! You’re Crazy!

Thanks again. Ive got a whole lot more to say, and Im smiling as I write this!

    God bless
