For me, this was one of those things that I never dreamed that I'd be doing and I consider myself blessed to have had that opportunity.

The truth is – a big part of my motivation for starting my biology blog was because I saw what they were doing.

Now here's the deal. I can't tell you when last I was EVER pushed and challenged as much as I was during that week.

Episode 154
10 Ways to Become a Better Teacher / Blogger

Being surrounded by bright minds and great thinkers really gives you a whole different perspective on changing the world. It makes you see (even more) that it IS possible.

One of the biggest takeaways I got from being there is that I need to constantly push myself to be a better teacher. This is something I would also like to encourage YOU to do.

But, I'm not just going to tell you to do it. I'm going to give you some guidance. Here are Ten tips I'm going to be using to help myself be a better teacher:

  • Don't assume your audience knows more than they do
  • Don't try to seem smart – Keep it Simple
  • Put yourself in your audience's position
  • Use simple stories to explain complex concepts – parables
  • Give lots of examples/case studies
  • Start with a plan
  • Push yourself to learn more
  • Have a clear end Goal
  • Create smaller goals based on that end goal
  • Get feedback from other experts and use it
  • BONUS TIP: Surround yourself with people who are doing awesome things

If you use these tips, you'd be surprised to see how much your teaching and blogging skills will improve over time.

I share tips and strategies that I’ve learnt building blogs since 2008 and interview experts who are knowledgable about various aspects of blogging so that we can learn from their experiences.

If you’re a blogger, thinking about becoming a blogger (pun intended) or are not even sure if blogging is right for you, go ahead and tune in to see what this blogging thing is all about.

How to Subscribe To The Show

  1. I will be applying these different ways in my posts. Teaching is the best way for bloggers to convey their messages to their audience. And we sometimes forget blogging is another form of teaching. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your day.

  2. Thank you for sharing! I love khan academy and am inspired to change the world through better teaching. Your enthusiasm is infectious 😉

  3. Wow, Leslie, you must have had a draining yet exciting time. Stories are so important, from everything I’m reading about effective teaching. I’ll remember to apply this in my writing for my audience. I also like your challenge to get our own masterminds together.

    1. Draining yet exciting is definitely accurate. And yes – stories are extremely important. Let me know if you do get a mastermind. It helps so much.

  4. Thanks for this! And yes, you are a great teacher and appreciate how you continue to push yourself to grow. We are never really done improving, right? 🙂

  7. I was so excited to leave you a review at
iTunes. When I clicked View in iTunes, it took me to a page that said, you need
to have iTunes. So I clicked on the button to Download iTunes, and I installed
it. When I again clicked view in iTunes I was taken to the same page to
download iTunes. Can’t figure out what I am doing wrong and how to leave you a
    review there.

    1. Sorry about that Jo. Thanks for being willing to leave the review. When you go to the page that it takes you to, click on “View In iTunes” and that’ll take you to the place where you can leave a review. I actually have a video in the sidebar here showing you how to leave a review. That should help.

      Thanks again 🙂
