114 Let’s Change the World with Our Blogs

By Leslie Samuel

A blog is MUCH MORE than just a website. It's a platform on which you can Create Content, Inspire Others, and Change the World. I know this from personal experience.

Listen to This Episode

I met these three ladies at a Human Anatomy & Physiology conference in Las Vegas, NV. It's a weird feeling when someone you've never met approaches you because they know you from what you do online.

If you don't know, I run a biology blog called Interactive Biology. It has grown to be a significant resource to the biology community, especially when it comes to Human Anatomy & Physiology.

These three teachers use my videos on a regular basis in their classes to help their students understand complicated topics.

They are professors who are exposed to lots of biology students, and are three of the many educators all over the world who help to spread the word to the most targeted audience I could ever ask for – biology students who have to learn the concepts I'm teaching.

As a result of people like them, my blog is helping as many as 50,000 people all over the world on a monthly basis.

Take home message – Our blogs are serious tools for reaching (and changing) the world.

However, too many people DON'T start blogs because they are afraid to do so, don't want to make mistakes, or don't feel like they have something to say.

In this relatively short episode, I'm speaking to those people – START YOUR BLOG!

I'm also speaking to you, who have maybe started a blog but haven't accomplished what you've been wanting to accomplish – KEEP ON BLOGGING!

This thing is HUGE, but we can do it.

Question: How are YOU going to change the world?

Some people prefer to read along with the podcast episode. Others actually prefer to read than listen. If you are one of those people, not to worry. I’ve got a transcript right here for you :)

Resources Mentioned

  1. Thought something was extra special about …I am also an academically trained biologist with minors in chemistry and immunology at the BS and MS levels. Never used the training for money but depended on it to keep me healthy. Keep up the good work. Will look at your courses to help my “blog” on other experiences and interests I have — ranging from military retirement, living and working overseas, relationships. etc. Thanks.

    1. That’s Awesome Nate. It’s always great to meet a fellow biologist 🙂

Hope you find lots of value in the courses, if even only just the free one.

      All the best!

  2. Hi Les,

Great heart warmer. How am I going to leave my imprint in this world? Interesting question. Probably the same way what you are doing, write valuable content which helps to solve other people’s problems. Zooming in on the needs of people who like to arrange songs. What other stuff they need before starting to arrange a song. Coming up with as many examples as possible to give them something tangible or they can relate to. Give them a step by step explanation of how to arrange songs for specific situations.
Keep in touch and enjoy your stay at Las Vegas, get inspired!

    With friendly greetings,

  3. Hi Leslie,

My answer to your question won’t be straight but still gonna be useful. The way I intent to make a difference is by listening to my inner voice (also called intuition). Why? Because the more I do it the closer I get to understand the reason why I was born. Which means the God’s purpose to my existence. Only when I truly understand that I’ll be able to serve at my best and let an unforgettable mark on people’s life.

    1. AWESOME stuff Orlando. It’s not straightforward but definitely powerful, and if more of us were to follow that inner voice, we’d be changing the world even without blogs 🙂

  4. 50k people monthly?!?! Congrats, that is awesome Leslie! If I can get into the 1000s I’ll be happy, yet alone over 100. It’s tough starting out, but I’m not giving up on my blogs! Great share!

  5. A very encouraging post. I “restarted” blogging after a number of years because it’s time to come back. I hope to encourage women who have been emotionally damaged because of past hurts that can get better through my writing (and ultimately, speaking). Thank you for your encouragment.

  6. Always inspired! I plan to change the world by “building health, one blog post at a time.”

  7. This is awesome…podcast.I like your change in tone and style of presentation. I love the fact that you were doing this podcast in a hotel in a relaxed mood. Its a podcast that has impacted many people in a specific way. Thank you for valuable information.

    1. Thanks Cheptiony. Glad you enjoyed the relaxed style of this podcast episode. It was a bit different, but I think the message is important.

      All the best!

  8. Hi Leslie, Great listening to you and now I know how I’m going to Leave a mark in this world.By Sharing what I have recently discovered! that there is a school greater than all schools and that is the School of the Holy Spirit of God in line with the greatest Practical Life Manual ever, the word of God.

  9. Leslie, I appreciate your inspiration! I relate to you both from a profesional and worldview standpoint. Thanks for modeling thought leadership in this space, as well as a true servant’s heart. Thanks to you, I continue to be inspired to change my world.

  10. Your blogs really cool. I am glad there’s someone running a blog out there inspiring others to start there own. I believe this is what it should be about- interactive and creative exploration and collaborative learning! I’ve written a piece out of love for all writers, bloggers and readers at my own blog. I’d be honoured if you’d read it and leave some feedback on the page!
