By Leslie Samuel

Google Plus ROCKS! Yeah, I said it – Now what?

Ok, maybe you don't believe me yet. It's ok. That's why you're reading this now. This is The Ultimate Guide To Google Plus for Bloggers.

Now, what's the best way to teach about Google Plus? By doing a Google Plus Hangout of course.

That's exactly what I did. This post has a video hangout I did with the Become A Blogger Community AND a number of QUICK tutorials to show you how to take advantage of the Awesome features contained within Google Plus.

I also talk about how YOU, as a blogger (or just a regular human being) can use Google+ effectively for growing your personal/business brand, AND connecting with others (even friends and family).

So, if you have about an hour and a half, watch the replay video of the hangout, and you'll learn A TON.

IF you don't have an hour and a half, watch some of it, and jump down to the Tutorials below.

By the way, this post will be updated on a regular basis with new Tutorials and resources for taking full advantage of Google+. Oh, and make sure to Join The Become A Blogger Community On Google Plus

Now, you may also be wondering if mainstream media is keen to really using Google+. The answer is a resounding YES.

In fact, just check out this video where Alicia Keys did her album launch via Google Plus. Just check out the Awesomeness of this technology.

How To Get Your Profile to Show in Search Results with Google Authorship

If you want your authorship information to appear in search results, you'll need a Google+ Profile and a headshot for your profile photo. Then, you have to link your website with your Google+ Profile. (Google doesn't guarantee to show author information in Google Web Search or Google News results.) Below are options on how to link your website:

Option 1:

You need a verified email address with the same domain name as your Website (e.g. [email protected] /

Make sure that each post in your website has a clear byline identifying you as the author (e.g. “By Leslie Samuel” or “Author: Leslie Samuel“). Your byline name must match your Google+ Profile

Go to the Authorship page and submit your email address. You only need to do this once. Your email will appear in the Contributor to section of your Google+ profile.

If you want to keep your email private, change the visibility of your link.

Option 2:

First, link your Google+ profile in your website, like this:

Google+

Replace [profile_url] with your Google+ profile URL:

Google+

Your link must contain the ?rel=author parameter. If it's missing, Google won't be able to associate your content with your Google+ profile.

Second, add a link to your website in your Google+ profile

Go to your Google+ profile and edit the Contributor to section.

Click Add custom link, and then enter your website URL.

You can specify who can see the links by clicking the drop-down button.

Click Save.

Lastly, Guy Kawasaki wrote an excellent book on Google+ and it's called What The Plus: Google+ For The Rest Of Us. It's a GREAT overview of how awesome G+ is and how to use it effectively. If you haven't checked it out, I would definitely recommend for you to do so. Click on the the picture below to download a FREE copy.

  1. We will be getting started shortly. I am going to be here moderating the chat, so once it starts let me know if you have any questions and I will pass them along! 🙂

    1. @GlobalBlogAlliance Well, it seems the panel is full. Let me try something. Try going here

  2. If you want to join head here

    1. @Marci Aurila HA! Well, I really do miss snow and honestly do not think I would miss Florida either. 🙂 We won’t tell my wife that though. LOL

    1. @DaynaWallace Hello! Welcome and it is OK. You will have to hurry next time and get here FAST and grab a spot on the panel! 🙂

  3. This is great! I have different interests that I want to keep up with, but FB can be overwhelming and I get sucked in and lost time quite often

  4. I remember many things I talked about with people on FB, but can NEVER find it. What a cool feature G+ has.

    1. Well, and it is also not easy to manage. Hey Reginald, if you connect with LiveFyre you will be able to @ tag peeps and such in these comments

    1. @hubze it’s going to take some time, but due to their privacy changes, more and more people are becoming alert. But, for now I have have to ask my wife about my family’s postings. lol

  5. What about connecting with people who have Etsy shops? How would I find them? I am in LinkedIn with many people who also own Etsy shops.

    1. @Marci Aurila You can do a search for “Etsy”, or “Etsy Shops” and add those you find to a specific circle. This is a great time to start an Esty community on Google +, they are not many right now.

    1. Reginald, there are many online. Do a search on Google and you will find them. I will do a quick search and see what I can find…

  6. So if i want to have a weekly book club meeting, I can do that in G+? Would I start a community or hangout first? Or are they connected somehow?

    1. @Marci Aurila You could indeed. Well, communities are still very new so I am not sure how that would work. But so far the community that I created seems to be a great way to do that…but I would recommend that you keep it private if you want to control the conversation. I made mine public and I am now having to monitor SPAM all the time.

  7. Yeah Marci you could do that with a hangout! All you would have to do is start a hangout and invite the people in the book club! If you wanted to schedule it, set it up as an event on air. 🙂 Do a community if you want to have a place where you all hang.

    1. @Marci Aurila No you do not. You can host them directly on your YouTube channel etc. There are many ways you can host them.

    2. @Court Tuttle I just saw Leslie’s channel and that I just press play and it is live. Very cool feature! Does YT automatically keep it?

    1. @Marci Aurila That is one of the apps you can use inside the hangout. You just activate “Tools” and then set it up. It is pretty easy.

  8. This is really SO cool! I’m looking forward to hosting a hangout of my own in the future. I’m hoping to get more of my readers over on G+ and make it happen!
Thanks Leslie for hosting the hangout! You Rock, as always!

    1. @Marci Aurila I can answer that one. A hangout is an event, where a community is much like a Facebook group. A hangout is a one time broadcast event you can do with select people or live on your YouTube channel.

  9. Yes, how do you integrate the picture from G+ into a blog post? Do you post it in your G+ as well then it will show?
